Dear Eric Clapton,

Shut up and play yer guitar!

Okay, so maybe I’m being a little harsh since you are a pop star and I’m sure the “gravy train” is nice. And I’ll admit, I do like your singing.

But, dammit, I didn’t sit for hours as a kid wearing out the grooves on my Creamand Derek & the Dominoesalbums because of your creamy tonsils.

I couldn’t get enough of that gutsy guitar from the British white guy who wanted to play guitar like the American black guys.

As we all know (at least those of us might wear the occasional Python boot), Frank Zappa took the hint before he “dropped anchor” and created a couple of “Shut Up ‘N Play Yer Guitar” albums. He even did a little jazz. Hell, Piggy still can’t get enough of Zoot Allures!

Even Jeff Beck (you remember him) put out a lot of  interesting “shut up and play yer guitar” albums like Blow by Blowand Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop.

So how ’bout it Eric? Wanna give us a little of that damned impressive guitar playing? Think you can pull off an album’s worth without flappin’ yer gums?
