Fractured fairy tales from a 50-something
If there’s any doubt that the so-called Taxpayers League of Minnesota is out of touch and out of step with Minnesota, this is pretty much proof positive. They should just call it the Friends of Michele Bachman League since that’s about the only people they represent.
From the Star Trib article:
Outdoors, arts amendment passes
A plan to raise funds to bolster environmental cleanup and enhancing arts for the next 25 years won strong support.
Phil Krinkie, former state legislator and president of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota, opposed the amendment because it would add an extra tax burden at a time of economic hardship. Krinkie said that advocates for the tax need to keep true to their promises about cleaning up rivers and providing thousands of acres of improved wildlife habitat.
“We don’t need more studies, we don’t need more bureaucratic agencies, we don’t need more land taken out of production for farmers, we don’t need more regulation,” Krinkie said.
Yep, we just need stupid, greedy rich people who don’t want to pay taxes and figure if they can just put up a big enough fence they can keep out all that icky “outdoors stuff.” “We have some nice Rose bushes we got at Bachmans and some illegal aliens to trim them.”
Hell, put up a big enough fence and you can keep out the Mexicans and the Blacks and the Asians and all those useless artists who contribute nothing to the state or the economy.
I guess all those high taxes and terrible regulations are why we have more Fortune 500 companies headquartered here than any other city in the US.
The best explanation I can think of is to listen to the Bob Wayne's Weblog theme song. Yes, that's right, I have a theme song (conveniently stolen from "What Do You Want From Life" by The Tubes). Enjoy and don't forget to tell me what you really think!Official Bob Wayne's Blog Theme Song

Yeah, maybe a bit harsh but I get really tired of people who think the only ones who contribute to the local economy are big corporations and sports teams.
The Arts are a fundamental reason why this state has so many corporate headquarters, not professional sports teams. The incredible University system, MNSCU, and high quality K-12 system are the other big contributors to this state’s proserity and success.
And if you’ve ever lived anywhere that the Intellectual and Gay communities have been driven out, you really understand the value of diversity and as “Governor Goofy” put it, “brain-power.”
