Fractured fairy tales from a 50-something
Piggy is not impressed with Chris Brown. And frankly, neither am I. If you want to talk about corporate irresponsibility and why social conservatives hate Hollywood, this is a pretty good example. And while I’m not a social conservative, this really pissed me off.
When swim boy got caught smoking a bong, he lost major corporate sponsors who didn’t want to be associated with what can be called at worst, irresponsible behavior. Big deal. But here we have a kid, pretty much the same age, who publicly beats the hell out of his girlfriend, and the record companies are slathering at the mouth to get him out on the road to promote his music after all this “great publicity.”
If his label had any sense of public responsibility, they would put this kid in a treatment facility or program and not release any of his music and not allow him to perform until he’s been certified as a graduate of the program. And then keep this kid on a short leash until he grows up.
But this is the results of 30+ years of music glorifying violence against women. You have a whole generation of young men who have grown up listening to music that makes beating and denigrating women OKAY. So is it any wonder that statistics show that one in three high school girls report being victims of violence? Hmmmm…could there be a connection?
Putting “violence” labels on CDs is not a solution or an answer. Every society that has achieved greatness has done so by putting the common good ahead of personal freedoms. Every great society that has fallen has done so when “personal freedom” and “corporate greed” completely overwhelm any sense that society requires a sense of responsibility on everyones part. And that society has lost the philosophy that, yes, some personal freedoms must be sacrificed for the sake of society.
If there are any women anywhere, young, middle-aged or old, who ever buy another CD or mp3 by this punk, they need their heads examined as bad as Chris Brown does. But what does Piggy know? He’s just a pig.
The best explanation I can think of is to listen to the Bob Wayne's Weblog theme song. Yes, that's right, I have a theme song (conveniently stolen from "What Do You Want From Life" by The Tubes). Enjoy and don't forget to tell me what you really think!Official Bob Wayne's Blog Theme Song
