Fractured fairy tales from a 50-something
Actually, the title is a bit of a misnomer. Most people who live in Minnesota would interpret that to mean, “OH MY GAWD! Will winter never end?” Or “I want to hack and shred small furry animals and gnaw on their dead, crusty corpses!” Well, maybe that’s not how most Minnesotans get but I sometimes find myself on the ragged edge of sanity about this time of year.
But that’s not what this blog is about.
The Rose Ensemble performed their final Candlelight concert last night in LaCrosse, WI, at the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Motherhouse. That is one amazing bunch of women. For over 150 years, these women have served their community, and communities around the world, in education, health care and even political activism.
While they look and act like a bunch of sweet, kindly women my guess is they are one tough, resourceful, bunch of go-getters that you do not want to mess with. If we fired all the guys running the world and put this bunch of trouble-makers in charge, I’d bet war, famine, poverty, crime and most drug addictions would be wiped out in no time.
But that’s not what this blog is about.
The Diva Drew and I drove to La Crosse, WI, down Highway 61 (yeah, that Highway 61). It’s a gorgeous drive in any season. It meanders down the Mississippi River through rolling hills, past towering, ragged bluffs of colorful sandstone and shale, and beneath the soaring wings of bald eagles that make their homes in the Mississippi River valley.
However, what really got the Diva Lisa Drew and I excited were some amazing frozen waterfalls cascading down the bluffs. We had to stop and take pictures. If you ever make this drive in the dead of winter, you’ll get to see them. Until then, here are some of the shots we took, starting of course, with the Diva Drew in Blue. Yes, that's right, I have a theme song (conveniently stolen from "What Do You Want From Life" by The Tubes). Enjoy and don't forget to tell me what you really think!Official Bob Wayne's Blog Theme Song
